FASHION AND MUSIC: INEVITABLE UNION AND HIT IN INFLUENCE

@teclamusicagency invites @camposroberta & @rogerio_s

Yes, music loves fashion – and vice versa! Singers and musicians have been using unique looks to consolidate their artistic expressions for a long time. Meanwhile, brands are increasingly attracting artists into their marketing strategies.

The union of these two forces has been a win-win where styling and music branding are indispensable. And we'll tell you all about it 😉

FASHION BELONGS TO THOSE WHO SING

In an artist's day-to-day life, fashion is a tool of identity. And, through styling, It is possible to create a personal image, tell stories and ensure visual unity – whether in events, shows and video clips.

“Styling is an interpretation, a reading that the stylist makes of the clothing, whether for a brand, advertising or an artist”, explains Rogerio EspiritoSanto, fashion editor and stylists of the personalities Letrux, Fernanda Abreu, Roberta Sá, Diogo Nogueira and Katia B.

To Roberta Campos, stylist for the group Os Garotin and Xamã, creating a look has long-lasting effects. “Styling ensures that the artist has a consistent presence in all appearances, tends to create a better connection with the audience, increases credibility and allows the artist to adapt the look to different situations. In addition, the artist’s personal style complements their artistic expression, making the audience’s experience more complete and engaging.”, defends.

And of course, those who opt for coordinated looks attract attention on stage and become targets for influence besides them too! Style and a lot of influence take singers Anitta and Iza to the A-line of fashion shows like Schiaparelli and Fendi. Meanwhile, Rosália, Ariana Grande and Rosé from BLACKPINK are ambassadors for Dior, Swarovski and Puma, respectively. Proving that mix and match from the fashion with music is also for men, the lead singer of the band Måneskin, Damiano David, became Diesel's first global ambassador in 2024.

Dior, in an official statement, announced Rosalía as ambassador citing her presence and attitude at the presentations: “Paying homage to live performance and the passionate connections between fashion, stage and music – the multi-talented Spanish singer is revealed, sublimely radiant.”

IN PRACTICE

To Rogerio, each action demands a narrative and it is always important to align expectations – but ensure that a professional nearby can make all the difference. “If there is an exchange between the two parties and the stylist understands and interprets the needs, it will certainly help the artist enormously”, defends.

“In music videos, styling helps tell the visual story, complementing the music and reinforcing the message the artist wants to convey. At concerts, costumes are essential, not only for aesthetics, but also for performance, ensuring comfort and allowing movements that capture the audience’s attention. At events, styling contributes to the construction of the artist’s personal brand, helping to create a public image that resonates with their audience and highlights their personality and style.”, complete Roberta

THE SOUND OF THOSE WHO WEAR

Artists who invest in a unique identity certainly attract more attention from brands – in fact, they are part of the production and even lend productions. On the other hand, brands that invest in music branding increasingly understand who the ideal personalities are for campaigns and associations.

“When we create a music branding, we deliver much more than sound management to brands. We give them an understanding of how they are in the music universe, which genres are aligned or not with their audiences. In other words, the strategy is the basis for the creation of Indoor Radio and Streaming, but it also provides guidance for positioning with influencers and artistic partners – so sought after today.”, Jean Tranjan, music curator at Tecla Music.

While fashion is for artists a narrative tool, artists are for fashion as a tool of influence. And, if the label adopts a personality aligned with its music branding – and values – it sounds like a perfect match!
